Modish Mommies: What inspired you to become a momtrepreneur?

Ashley Silva: I found out I was pregnant with my son at just 21. So being a “momtrepreneur” chose me. Although I was becoming a mom, I still wanted to achieve my lifelong dreams. I knew they would be a little harder to achieve and may take a little longer, but I was up for the challenge.

MM: How do you balance being a momtrepreneur while being in the entertainment industry?

AS: It’s difficult at times. Business doesn’t stop or care when you have a sick kid at home or that you don’t have a sitter. These have been huge obstacles for me. So, I try to include my children in my business as much as it allows.I make sure to carve out time for business, but also make sure that my children know that they come 1st.

MM: Tell our readers what it entails to be a mom and a boss?

AS: Being a mom is probably the hardest “job” in the world. If you are a great mom, you’ll probably be good in any business you get into. A boss is innovative and a problem solver, before the problems even arise. A mom does the same. A mom & a boss already have several solutions to every problem. When it’s go time, they go!

MM: What is something you never had that you want for your children?

AS: I didn’t grow up in a 2 parent household. My children do. I am glad that my husband and I are able to give them a great example of what a loving marriage is. We show them what love and support look like from both ends. I am very proud of that.

MM: What is your favorite aspect of being a momtrepreneur?

AS: I love that my children see me actively pursuing my dreams. I want them to dream big, and never give up on their dreams, no matter what life throws at them. Whenever I want to give up, I think about what kind of example that would set for them.

MM: What ignited the spark in your drive to be successful?

AS: I’ve always known that I wanted to be successful and that I wanted to live a certain lifestyle. But, my husband has truly been my inspiration. He works harder than anyone I know. It’s inspiring to watch him and it pushes me to be a better person and to work harder.

MM: What advice would you give millennial moms that want to be entrepreneurs?

AS: Go for it and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We deserve it all and so do our kids, they are watching. Don’t let them down.

MM: What do you enjoy most about motherhood?

AS: I love watching my children grow into the people they are becoming and seeing their eyes light up daily when they learn when they laugh and are happy.

MM: What have you learned from past obstacles or failures?

AS: I have learned that you are going to fail and make mistakes. People will count you out and not support you. It’s going to happen and it’s going to hurt. Use that as ammunition. Don’t let obstacles defeat you.

MM: How do you define success?

I define success as being fulfilled and happy. Money doesn’t necessarily equate happiness but fulfilling your dreams and purpose that’s what brings true success.
