The entertainment industry is very cut throat especially when you are as driven and of course as flawless as Valeshia Butterfield-Jones. Starting off in the political science field, Valeisha transitioned into entertainment when she landed an internship with industry mogul Russell Simmons. By displaying confidence, exuding passion, and demonstrating integrity she was able to become one of the youngest Executive Director’s during that time period and from there, her career took off. Recently, she worked under the Obama Administration and she is now Head of Black Community Engagement for Google, need I say more?
Most importantly, I want to highlight her organization Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN). When I listened to her interview on The Breakfast Club, the first thought that came to my mind was why am I just finding out about her and this organization. WEEN is a global coalition of women and men committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society.Through this organization, you are able to gain mentorship opportunities, educational development, vital networking contacts, and the list goes on!!
While everyone’s success is reached in different capacities, she lets it be known that you have to take action in order to fulfill YOUR DESTINY. Oftentimes, millennials (including myself) see something that we want but we don’t want to put in the work for it or give up when we should really keep pushing through. But like Drake said you have to start from the bottom. Valeisha is a prime example that hard work and preparation does pay off as long as you are persistent and consistent with your passion. As a wife, mom, and leader, Valeisha we commend you for paving the way for women of all colors in male dominating industries and showing us that there is no limit to success!
