I was always taught to show love and support people even strangers from a young age. I’m the friend that you don’t have to ask to support you because I already got you. It truly brings me joy to see others succeed, especially my people of color. After, I started Modish Mommies I began to realize that all the love wasn’t being reciprocated, but I never let it get to me. It wasn’t until we had our first event and I had high expectations that people from around the way,

As you grow up, you begin to realize the effects your childhood has on you. For the most part, I had a good childhood, but like every family, my family had their shit with them too. When I was in fifth grade I found out the man that was raising me was not my father. My real father was around because he was my mom’s best friends’ cousin, which made things even more awkward because I knew him and his entire family. My mother knew the truth but figured that

Recently, Saia went to her dentist for her six-month checkup and it was an experience for both of us. Usually, the dentist does a quick check, brushes vitamins on her teeth and then we are done. But things didn’t’ go as planned this time. Instead, they gave her the standard cleaning and we both weren’t ready for it. As an adult I have to mentally prepare myself for a cleaning, so I felt so bad that I didn’t prep her for this appointment. At first, she sat still, then we

I come from a family full of educators and I was blessed to be around the HBCU experience at an early age. My grandfather was a band director at Grambling State University (GSU), so my love for the band and HBCUs is real! But as I got older, I was worried more about turning up than my education. I was a work in progress and didn’t give my all as I should have in high school. My family, of course, wanted me to continue the legacy at GSU, but I

I don’t know about yall, but I’m ready to take some trips! We all know there is nothing like a baecation or a girls trip. It’s so necessary for us to take a break from momming and just let loose every now and then but we can’t forget about the kiddos! Traveling with the family is so important because it allows you’re family to connect on another level, enrich their young minds and create everlasting memories. Fortunately, Saia has been able to travel since she was a baby. However, it

It’s been awhile, Modish Mommies! Motherhood has been keeping me on my toes and I’ve honestly been in a funk. Modish Mommies was created while I was pregnant because I couldn’t relate to any mom blogs, so my cousin and I created a mom platform geared towards moms of color. After a while, we decided to host events that focused on inspiring moms to become entrepreneurs and provided them with resourceful tools.  But over the course of time, I lost the excitement that I once had when we first started

Hey Modish Mommies! I wanted to write about a topic that impacts all of us. It is something that everyone uses and is crucial to how we live our lives. Today I want to discuss communication. It has been proven that the majority of human communication is non-verbal. I am always astounded by this when I think about impact. I find myself making the assumption that unless I say it, the message hasn’t been conveyed. However, if the majority of communication is non-verbal, nothing has to be said at all

I can remember the day and most of the details of the delivery of both my first and second child. Motherhood has been simultaneously the most challenging and rewarding time of my life. It was particularly challenging when I first became a mother. However, no one quite prepared me for what awaited me during maternity leave. During the months leading up to my maternity leave I nested, and looked forward to having what seemed like an expanse of time to simply enjoy my new baby and being home with him.

I have been struggling with reaching my fitness goals for quite some time now. Although I did get my diet in order, for the most part, this baby weight will not come off unless I put in some work! Deep down inside I would prefer to fly to Miami and get a makeover, but I promised myself that I would at least try to work these pounds off. Hard work and consistency lead to results and honestly, I just haven’t been consistent. Adding the gym to my schedule is easy

Yes, I’m a tech junkie and I rely on my phone for everything. Surprisingly, it has helped make my life a little easier as a mom. From staying organized to grocery shopping, I’ve found an app to help do almost everything. I want to share a few of my favorite apps that I use on a regular basis:  Shipt Everyone hates grocery shopping, especially when you have to drag the kids along. Shipt is one of the few grocery delivery apps that lets you shop from the comfort of your home
